Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra
Graduate of the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Seville (ETSA) in 1972. Project Professor at this University until 1987, he is currently Honorary Professor and director of the Catedra Blanca international architecture workshop. He has been Visiting Professor at the Universities of Buenos Aires, Lausanne, Navarra, Syracuse New York, Bologna, Venice, Mendrisio and Visiting Scholar at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. He has participated in many exhibitions including the Biennale di Venezia in 1980 and 2004, the Triennale di Milano in 1988, Centre Georges Pompidou Paris in 1990, The Art Institute of Chicago in 1992, The Museum of Modern Art New York in 2006, RIBA London in 2007, DOMUSae Madrid in 2010, BIAU Rosario, Argentina in 2014 and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design in 2016. His main projects include social housing buildings in Seville, Rota and Madrid, the Expo'92 Seville Navigation Pavilion, the Vigo Seafront Development, the Museum of Enlightenment in Valencia, the Museum of the Sea in Genoa, Tomares Town Hall, the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology in Cartagena, the restoration of San Telmo Palace, the Seville Conference Centre, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Luxembourg and the Caixaforum Seville Cultural Centre. Among other projects, he is currently preparing the refurbishment of the Archaeological Museum of Seville, the University of Alicante's Business Creation Centre and the Atarazanas Cultural Centre in Seville. He has received several awards, including the 1989 Construmat Prize, the 2001 C.E.O.E. Foundation Prize, the 2005 Spanish National Architecture Prize, the 2006 ASCER Prize, the 2008 Ugo Rivolta European Architecture Prize, the 2014 Ibero-American Biennial Prize and The Chicago Athenaeum Museum 2015 and The Plan Award 2015 International Architecture Prizes. His professional career has been acknowledged with the 2006 Arpafil Award (Guadalajara International Book Fair, Mexico), the 2007 Andalucía Architecture Prize and the Grand Award at the 2011 Buenos Aires International Biennial. He is an Honorary Member of the American Institute of Architects, AIA 2014 and has recently been awarded the 2016 Gold Medal of Spanish Architecture.
